How Is Polyethylene Pipe More Suitable Than Steel Or PVC Pipes ?

HDPE stands for high density polyethylene. It is the material that is widely used for underground piping. HDPE is basically a thermoplastic that is commonly used in well piping, gas piping and drainage tubing. This is remarkably similar to PVC in regards to stress loadings such as internal pressure and soil loads.

This modern technology is gaining popularity over other inefficient materials due to its following properties. HDPE is good at transporting water, slurry and even the compressed gases. Also, these are very tough and are least affected by external weight. Since the material is very supple and non- breakable, it posses a very good strength.

Another characteristics of this noteworthy material is its flexibility and hence require fewer fittings. Being flexible, it can be bent over uneven terrains and performs well in earthquake prone area. The greater advantage of this pipe is that it gets installed very easily and the cost indulged in installation is also very less.

Since polyethylene is smoother as compared to steel, cast iron or concrete pipes, hence it posses an excellent flow characteristics. It has a non sticky surface that eliminates scaling and pitting and thus, maintain a good quality flow of debris.

Apart from being durable and flexible, these are highly resistant to rust and which makes them suitable for mining. Moreover, the pipes remain unaffected by the microbial actions and resist to the soil that builds up naturally on the walls of the pipes. HDPE pipes are joined together by heat fusion that makes them leak free.

More sophisticated forms of HDPE are available in the market. In addition to this, the size of these pipes vary from half inches to 63 inches.

This technology has helped overcoming the deficit of drinking water as these are nowadays used to carry clean drinking water to a large number of communities. Because its installation or repair doesn’t mean shutting off the city’s main water supply for longer time period.

HDPE pipelines are manufactured to render a hassle free service as compared to steel and PVC pipes. People being aware of this fact are now gradually replacing their old pipelines with polyethylene pipes. The technology allows additional cost savings that could be achieved by lower instances of repair.
