A faulty toilet flush valve disturbs the integrity of your toilet as far as the sanitation is concerned. Such issues must be fixed immediately in order to restore the serenity of your plumbing setup.

One such issue is the replacement of the flush valve of your toilet. Beforehand make sure that the flush valve actually requires a replacement and it can’t be fixed.

Beforehand, keep abreast all the required plumbing tools that would assist you in the proceedings of this plumbing project. Most commonly employed tools include the screwdrivers, wrenches, Teflon tape, hammer etc. Also a first-aid kit must be available as well.

Flush the toilet tank and if it doesn’t flush properly then open the lid of the tank and take out water with the help of a small container. Use a wet or dry rag to to clean out the tank completely. Once tank is emptied, locate a valve chain that is clipped to a trip arm. Detach the valve chain from the trip arm and expose the underlying setup.

Now move to the actual task of detaching the old or broken flush valve from the toilet fixture. Simply lift the valve or the flapper from the flush valve seat by detaching the clips (on the side) from the overflow tube. The method of detachment of the flush valve varies depending on the type of flush valve you’re using. Once the flush valve is completely detached from the setup, make way for a new flush valve. Make sure that the new flush valve is similar to the old one in terms of the flapper style and the adjoining clips.

Rest the flapper flat on the flush valve seat and attach it’s clips to the respective setup on the overflow tube. Make sure that the flush valve rests flat on the seat and no irregularity is noticed.

Reattach the valve chain to the trip arm and restore the normal working of the flush valve and the associated framework.

Turn off the water supply valve situated at the bottom of the tank. Examine the flush valve and the affiliated setup for it’s normal operation.
